Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar reveals his favourite ODI knock; picks ‘best cricketing day of life’
Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has recently revealed his best cricketing moment and favourite ODI knock. Tendulkar enjoyed a glorious career where he achieved almost everything a batter dreams to be.
The ‘Master Blaster’ inspired millions of youngsters across the globe to enter this extraordinary sport. In a 24-year-long and successful career, it’s pretty hard to pick one moment that can be termed the best for Tendulkar.
However, the Mumbaikar has named one such episode of his extraordinary cricketing career that stand out the most. Tendulkar picked the 2011 World Cup victory at his home ground, Wankhede Stadium, as the biggest highlight and best cricketing day of my life.
Tendulkar reckoned that he had the honour of lifting the World Cup trophy on behalf of billions of fans who played a massive role in bringing the trophy to the Indian dressing room.
“Nothing beats the World Cup final in 2011. That was the best cricketing day of my life. That’s what you play for. I had the honour and privilege to represent the country for 24 years and had the honour of lifting the trophy on behalf of a billion-plus people. So, I always feel that it is not just a few individuals, but the entire 1.39 billion-plus population has played their role in bringing the trophy to our dressing room. It belongs to a billion-plus people,” Tendulkar told Sportstar.
Tendulkar’s jaw-dropping records at the international level speak for themselves as to how great the right-handed batsman was during his playing days. When he decided to hang his boots, he was the leading run-scorer in Tests as well as in the ODI format. In fact, in ODIs, no one has been as prolific than Tendulkar, who scored 18426 runs at an impressive average of 44.88 with the help of 49 centuries.
Like his career achievements, it’s again a tricky thing to pick one ODI knock that can be termed the best as Tendulkar has played numerous memorable innings in the 50-over format. From his famous ‘desert storm’ innings against Australia at Sharjah to outstanding 98 against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup, choosing one knock of Tendulkar is a difficult task. But the legendary cricketer has named one that stands head and shoulder above the rest. Tendulkar went with his remarkable double century against South Africa in 2010 as his favourite knock in ODIs.
“The first 200 in the ODI that I scored against South Africa (in Gwalior in 2010) is one of my top ODI innings. Their bowling attack was very good, and they were a very good opposition. That was the first time in the history of ODIs someone scored 200 runs, so that has its own relevance,” added Tendulkar.
