Twitter reactions: Ravichandran Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal sizzle as India dominate Day 1 of first Test against West Indies

India end Day 1 of the first Test on a high note

In a sensational display of cricketing prowess, Ravichandran Ashwin‘s exceptional bowling performance led India to bundle out West Indies for a mere 150 runs on the opening day of the first Test at Windsor Park.

Ashwin claimed his 33rd five-wicket haul in Test cricket, receiving support from Ravindra Jadeja who contributed three wickets to restrict the opposition. The batting duo of Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal further solidified India’s dominance with an unbeaten 80-run opening partnership.

Returning to the playing XI after being excluded from the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Ashwin proved his mettle by dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Kraigg Brathwaite in the first session. In the second session, he added the wickets of Alzarri Joseph and debutant Alick Athanaze to his tally before ending West Indies’ innings by claiming the wicket of Jomel Warrican.

Amidst the collapse, Athanaze displayed his skill and resilience, scoring 47 runs before being dismissed by Ashwin. The left-handed batter, known for his record-breaking half-century on ODI debut, showcased his temperament and adaptability to the longest format.

When it was India’s turn to bat, Rohit dominated the scoring in the early stages, while Jaiswal took some time to settle in, taking 16 balls to open his account. Jaiswal eventually found his rhythm, hitting a four by cutting Joseph over backward point and steadily increasing his scoring rate. By the end of the day, Jaiswal had outscored his skipper, further highlighting his promising potential.

Twitter erupted with praise and admiration for Ashwin’s remarkable bowling performance, lauding his ability to consistently trouble the West Indies batters. Fans also showered praise on Jaiswal for his composed debut innings, commending his adaptability and mature shot selection.
